St Paul's, Newton Abbot

Welcome!

Our aim is to know God’s Word better, so that we know God better!

In all our services, the focus is on God’s Word the Bible.  As God’s Word is preached, our prayer is that the Holy Spirit will apply it to our hearts so that we can grow in our faith and discipleship and be equipped to share the good news of Jesus Christ with the world.

We meet on Sundays at 11 am for Holy Communion or Service of the Word.

Month
1st Sunday Service of the Word
2nd Sunday Holy Communion
3rd Sunday Service of the Word
4th Sunday Holy Communion

St Paul’s has a relaxed formality about its services which alternate between services of Holy Communion and Services of the Word.  Both use liturgy* from Common Worship.  This is the primary service book for the Church of England.  Most of the material is in contemporary language.  The Service of the Word has praise, prayers, Bible readings and a sermon based on the reading.  The clergy don’t wear robes.

Whilst the hymns and songs are mainly traditional, we’re starting to sing a range of good new modern hymns and songs, with a small worship band often complementing the organ.

We don’t currently have any children’s groups, but we’re aiming to have them up and running before Easter 2024.  There is a play area for small children at the back of the church.

The services are streamed and recorded.  So you can even take a look at us before you come along!

Please come and join us, stay for coffee and introduce yourself!  We want you to feel welcome and at home.

In terms of the building; there has been a worshipping community at St Paul’s since the late 19th century. It’s been changed a little over the years and the church narrowly avoided a German bomb during the 2nd World War. (It exploded in the car park!) Close to the town centre, the area is now a conservation area and the church with its adjoining hall sits in tree lined grounds with offices, businesses and private homes around it.   You can read about the history and architecture of the church here.
